Annual surf games

By Maaike De Veirman

Next week our annual surf-games are back! None other than our best surfers will take part in the competition. During the surf-games, the participants have to pass 2 obstacles, the last participants standing go to the final. During the final, our participants have to show their best tricks. The better and more difficult the trick, the more points they get. The person with the highest score wins our annual surf-games.

What can you expect?

In this year’s surf-games we chose to make the obstacles a little more difficult. The first obstacle that our participants have to survive are giant balls in the water. During this obstacle, their balance will be tested. The second obstacle is jumping planks. Every participant has to do at least two jumps or else they get removed from the competition. The surfers that are still standing after two jumps will go to the final.

During this year’s final, our finalists have to show their best tricks. These can be tricks such as the tail slide, off-the-lip, a cutback or even a tube ride. The more difficult and better the trick, the more points they get.

Our jury

This year our jury consists of none other than Kelly Slater (UBN's best surfer), John Brone (our finalist from 2019) and Julia Scrid, the winner of our surf-games in 2019.

These three surfers will give points to all of the participants. Posture, balance, speed and of course the difficulty of the trick will all be reviewed by our jury.

We are looking forward to seeing you all next week!
